The generic requirement is that they should be able to decode QR-codes and have a resolution of 0.1mm (5mils).
At CERN, we have two types of code reader that work:
Manufacturer: Denso, Type: QS-20P
Manufacturer: Data Logic, Type: Lynx D302E (Less highly recommended, difficult to judge focal distance)
Other code readers are available from (this is not an exhaustive list):
Manufacturer: Code Corporation, Type: Code Reader 2.0 (CR2)
Manufacturer: Hand Held Products, Type: Imageteam 4410HD (No Longer recommended, difficult to use routinely)
